BBTRZ Flexible Fire-resistant Cables

This cable consists of a copper stranded conductor, mineral compound insulation, a mineral compound fire-resistant layer, and a halogen-free outer sheath. The continuous operating temperature of the cable is 90℃. The cable can maintain power supply for 3 hours under flame conditions ranging from 950℃ to 1000℃, without experiencing short circuits or disconnections. In the event of a fire, this cable produces minimal smoke and toxic gases.

Scope of application:

BBTRZ Flexible Fire-resistant Cables are used as the main power supply line from the substation (or main distribution room) to the fire protection system, or in special and Class I locations. They are required to be used as Class A fire-resistant cables or as a replacement for long-term use of 90°C low-smoke, halogen-free flame-retardant cables. These cables are used in fixed installation applications.

Product Structure

The cable structure design is meticulous and professional. The conductor part utilizes either the first or second type of annealed copper conductor, which boasts excellent conductivity and flexibility, meeting the power transmission needs of various scenarios.

The mineral insulation layer utilizes wrapped fire-resistant mica tape, which, due to its unique material properties, can effectively prevent the spread of fire in the face of high temperatures or flames, providing reliable fire protection for the cable.

The color-coded insulation layer utilizes cross-linked polyethylene insulation material, with various methods of color coding. Insulation colorant can be added, or color tapes, colored yarns, etc. can be used, facilitating quick and accurate identification of circuits during cable installation and maintenance.

In the cable filling process, flame-retardant filling materials are used at the center to suppress flame propagation. Meanwhile, wrapping tape can be used to tie up the filling materials to ensure tight filling and structural stability.

The fire-resistant layer consists of minerals and wrapping tapes. First, a layer of mineral material, which possesses advantages such as fire resistance, fire endurance, high temperature resistance, and thermal insulation, is extruded onto the cabled core to construct a fire barrier. The outer layer is protected by a flame-retardant tape wrapped around it to enhance the fire-resistant effect and ensure the safe operation of the cable in extreme environments.

The sheath is made of halogen-free, low-smoke, flame-retardant polyolefin sheathing material, which exhibits excellent flame retardant properties and produces no harmful smoke during combustion, thus reducing the harm to personnel and the environment. The sheath is typically orange or tangerine in color, which is eye-catching and easy to identify. It can also be colored black upon request to meet the needs of different usage scenarios.

Performance parameter

The rated voltage of this BBTRZ Flexible Fire-resistant Cables is 0.6/1kV. During the testing phase, a test voltage of 3.5kV was applied for 5 minutes, and no breakdown occurred. The long-term allowable operating temperature limit of the cable conductor is 90℃. When laying the cable, the ambient temperature should not be lower than 0℃. The minimum bending radius is 12 times the cable outer diameter (12*OD). The mineral insulation layer is made of multiple layers of mica tape with fire-resistant properties.


In terms of fire resistance, this cable meets the requirements of both corporate standards and IEC 60331-1, with a combustion duration of up to 180 minutes. Regarding the conductor resistance at 20ºC, it must comply with the specifications for either Type 1 or Type 2 annealed copper conductors as outlined in GB/T 3956 and IEC 60228. As for insulation resistance, the cable's insulation resistance should not be less than 100 MΩ·km at ambient temperature.


In addition, the finished cable must undergo a fire resistance test, with the test method following the provisions of GB/T 19216.21. The temperature for the fire exposure is set at 950~1000℃, with a duration of 180 minutes, followed by a cooling period of 15 minutes. During this period, the cable must not exhibit short circuits or open circuits.

Advantages and disadvantages of flexible fire-resistant cable BBTRZ compared to mineral insulated cable BTTZ:

Advantages:

Cable insulation is not prone to moisture absorption and has stable insulation performance.

Multiple cores can be produced in fixed lengths, reducing the number of intermediate connectors in cables.

The structure is flexible, facilitating cable bending and reducing the difficulty of laying.

Cables can be used without dedicated terminations, reducing the cost of accessories.

Disadvantages: The fire resistance is slightly inferior and cannot meet the requirements of BS 8491.

The maximum operating temperature is 90℃, which does not reach the 250℃ of BTTZ

The highest level of combustion performance can meet the requirements of Class B1, but cannot meet the requirements of Class A.
